Trying To Save The World In 60 Days

The title is a bit dramatic, but I'm trying to convey urgency. My name is Ashraf, and I graduated with an EE degree in August 2000 from the University of Texas in Austin. I've worked for some large and small companies along the way: M/A-Com, Mentor Graphics, Intel, and now for a small design services company. I've had many profound experiences since graduating from college, and many have led me to pursue a profession in medicine. My desire and passion is to bring needed medical attention to those living in underserved areas. With this aim I've decided to pursue a degree in medicine, and I'm currently in the application process.

This goal has currently motivated me to implement a tracking program for a local clinic in Southside Chicago. It will give me a chance to become well acquainted with the non-profit system, and more importantly a chance to interact and be a part of improving the quality of healthcare for the people of the community. However, before starting this program the clinic will require a flexible EMR system that will allow us to track and quantify the results using various methods not common to commercial EMR packages. Furthermore, the cost of these packages is prohibitive, and I feel working and contributing to the Vista community will help empower all of those seeking to universally provide quality health care. We have 60 days to get this system running, all of the custom additions do not have to be included but enough to demonstrate its flexibility. I'm looking forward to being part of the community and making this happen.
